Rick Steves Audio Europe™ App Reviews

This update deleted my entire playlist!

Caution!

You broke it!

This is a review for the app only ( content has always been great). The app was basic and functional... now you made it so much harder to use, especially after removing the feature to download all tracks of a playlist at once. Also after the update, I had to re-download all my tracks again.

DO NOT UPGRADE

Broken now. Deletes all previous downloads. Wont remember your place in the track if you leave and come back. Wont continue to play if you navigate through the app. Overall slow and clunky. Clearly, nobody tested this before release.

Previous version was awesome. This one stinks

The previous version was very slick, streamlined, and very fast. I could down multiple tracks at once and they were in my playlist within a minute. Once I upgraded I had to redone load my entire playlist because it had deleted it. It took forever to download each track. What used to take seconds now takes several minutes. If I try to download multiple tracks at once then none of them load, they time out and then it leaves a error message. It has taken me 4 days to download what I want and Im still not done. Give us back the old version. It worked just fine and it was easy to navigate and read.

No thanks

This app stinks. Keep with the old version.

A Phenomenal FREE guide to Europe

This app is above and beyond. I used this while planning my month long Europe trip. I loved listening to the tips and tricks and found very helpful advice from Rick Steves. But the app is even more useful as you utilize the "city walks" and tours in each of the cities. It even has maps which relate well to reality and you can easily orient yourself to follow along easily. If you love to learn and are new to the historical sites of Europe this is a perfect resource! And its FREE!? My only complaint... While listening to the audio tour guides I would want to take a picture while listening. As I would try to take a picture, the audio from the app would stop and I would have to reopen the app and replay. This became tedious. I wish the app continued to play the tour in the background as I took a picture so I could continue listening and enjoy the sites simultaneously. But again this app is absolutely worth it.

Fantastic app!

Used this in Rome, Pompeii and Paris. Super helpful and comprehensive way to tour sites and museums without paying for a separate guide. Only suggestion is to bring on more walkthroughs of museums, etc!

Great content, but frequently crashed

I love the content of this app :: the podcasts and the interactive walking features. But TWICE this app has crashed when I was using it and all of the downloaded content was lost ... this was especially frustrating when it happened in the Uffizi on my recent trip to Florence. Fortunately I had looked over the info in advance, but it was frustrating to loose this content whilst trying to use it in the museum! I would be more than willing to pay for this app if it would mean that it was more reliable!

He brings it to life

Rick Steves guided tours bring ancient ruins to life. He has a great voice, provides interesting details and made my kids excited to spend a whole hour at the Roman Forum.

Mostly good for Rome trip, with exceptions

We used this in Rome November 2016 and it was very helpful. The best was were the audio tours of the Vatican Musums and the Sistine Chapel, and the Colosseum. Well timed and loads of information. The attempts at humorous banter were the only drawback, painful but tolerable. Fortunately they make up a small part of the tours. Pompeii was the only problem tour because shortly into it the streets that the audio tour proceeded to were closed, and there was no way to get around to proceed to the tour - all streets to the area the audio tour went to were closed. If I had know that I would have gotten the audio tour at entry. Another problem tour was St. Peters Basilica. A good portion of the tour includes walking up to the alter, and exploring the naves to right and left of the alter. But the area of the alter was blocked off, and so were the naves. Perhaps that was temporary but I have no idea. Regardless, thanks, Rick, for all the helpful information. Perhaps put in a disclaimer - for Pompeii especially - that the site may close parts of the tour from public access.

Works!

No problem with the new update. Its a great app – love it. Going to Italy next year. Its very helpful

Only for iPhone

No iPad version available.

Excellent

I dont normally write reviews but after reading about a few peoples disappointment with the track downloading process I made sure to set aside a couple of hours to make sure I had time to get everything I wanted. Lets just say it took about 5 minutes and I had all of the walking tours in my playlist. Maybe something was updated, but I had no problems at all. Looking forward to our trip to Europe in three weeks!

No Download Problem today

After reading about lengthy download issues I was a bit apprehensive about downloading the app to complement Steves books. However, reading jgonzo5s review I thought I could at least give it a try. As was his/her experience, I was able to download about 20 tracks of Paris, Amsterdam, Belgium and Italy in just a few minutes. I do have good LTE service so perhaps that accounts for better speed and no waiting on the downloads.

Wow!

I didnt have any of the problems experienced by other reviewers. Loaded very quickly on to my iPhone 5. Cant wait to use the studios. Thank you Rick.

Download issues

Downloads do not work when iPhone is in sleep mode. Dumb.

Rick Steves App

Downloaded 9 tracks in 4 minutes. No issues. Great App and Excellent info from Rick.

No Norway

Was looking for information about Norway but the Scandinavia section seemed to be primarily about Sweden only. No info on Norway at all. The destinations available in the app should be listed up front in the description.

Rick is awesome travel guide ! App needs improvement.

Rick is manage to educate you about Europe history in a friendly, fun, interesting that you actually remember kind of way ! We tried several travel guides app and personal guides. They all tell you information that is more suited to a computer than a human (who found the price when and where) Rick explains why what you are seeing is important and has significant (in other words why you bother yourselves traveling all this way to see this item). The app could use some adjustment and a GPS is a must cause you can get lost, but the images help you to know youre looking at the right item. In conclusion: we choose our destination based or Ricks audio a because he just makes our travel that much more enjoyable ! All other travel apps just boers us to death with irrelevant information ! Rick, keep doing what youre doing !

Absolutely awesome!!!

Been a big fan of Rick Steve for while and is show. And when I found out that I would go to Paris for my honeymoon I knew I had to get his guide book for Paris. Then I found out about the app and made things come to life. I downloaded the app and downloaded the Paris playlist tracks to Company me and my guidebook. Let me say first that this isnt only audio but multi interactive with Maps photos and easy clips to listen to with interviews and got step by step guides on the way it feels like Rick Steves is with you on your tour , amazing! Havent used it in Paris yet but definitely will enjoy it!!! Thanks rick and happy travels :-)
